Mr. Yasushi Akashi, President of the United Nations Association of Japan and former UN Under-Secretary-General, delivered a commemorative lecture on the 70th anniversary of Japan’s accession to the United Nations at the United Nations University on April 15, 2026, following opening remarks by Rector Tchilidzi Marwala and Director Takuma Sakaguchi of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the subsequent panel discussion, participants exchanged views with Former Ambassador Motohide Yoshikawa to the UN and Fomer Ambassador Tadamichi Yamamoto to UNESCO, Professor Kiichi Fujiwara and other participants on, inter alia, Japan’s contributions to the United Nations and the Japanese public’s understanding of the organization.
