Former ICJ Chief Justice Hisashi OWADA delivers his "DoctorHonoris Causa" Acceptance Speech at the University of Prishtina inKosova (18/6/2025)

In a solemn ceremony held at the Amphitheater of the Faculty of

Education, the University of Prishtina conferred the esteemed title of

"Doctor Honoris Causa" upon Professor Hisashi Owada (小和田 恆)

on 18 June.

He served as a judge at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) from

2003 to 2018 and held the position of president from 2009 to 2012,

during which time the International Court of Justice (ICJ) issued its

advisory opinion in July 2010 stating that Kosovo’s declaration of

independence did not violate international law.
